my weekend spill-eth over

In an effort to save money for the unknown of next fall in San Francisco, I've put a serious freeze on my spending and, unfortunately, my social life. But this weekend I put that all behind and let loose a little.

Saturday morning began early, with a little garage sale shopping in the Fabulous Forties and Land Park. My mom and I prefer to go to the older, classier neighborhoods of Sacramento because they usually have the better junk. I scored big time on this trip. I think I only spent ten dollars but I got loads of stuff.

Like fancy napkins, new curtains, a few cool jars, confetti to trash my friend's getaway car after her wedding that night.

And the highlight? A working Kodak Brownie Hawkeye camera for three bucks.

Then my mom and I treated ourselves to scones at Freeport Bakery and a bouquet of ranunculus at the local market. It was the perfect Saturday morning out.

When I got home I made the getaway car decorations (sorry, I was terrible at remembering to take photos the entire wedding, projects included) then hopped in the shower, gave myself a haircut (I think it looks kinda even), and threw on my dress.

The wedding was so beautiful, and I've never seen Katie look so radiant. It was at her parent's home out here in the country, and as her dad said in his toast later that night, it was extra special because that had been where so many important and memorable moments in Katie's life had taken place.

Most of my friends were attendants in the wedding, but thankfully, a few old guy friends from elementary school came. I don't think I've ever laughed so much at a wedding. Guys are the best.

The wedding went by so quickly, too fast for some of us, so we headed down the street to the maid of honor's house to continue the party. We had a midnight barbeque, completely roasted ourselves in the hot tub, laughed about elementary school days, and after everyone else had passed out, one of the guys and I stayed up talking until 6:30 in the morning. You know, it's funny, I grew up with him in school, we had a lot of the same friends, but I never actually knew him. Turns out he's pretty much the guy version of me.

Strange how you can be around someone for so long, but never actually know them.

Once the sun started coming up we decided it was probably time to get a little rest. An hour later I woke up, drove people home, showered, and headed to church.

Spent an hour on the phone with another friend getting married, discussing colors and venues. Then met up with a friend to buy our bridesmaid shoes for a wedding we're in next month.

Finally, around five, I completely passed out on the couch, waking only for Desperate Housewives and spring rolls.

And then, Monday morning I woke up and drove to Chico to play frisbee and swing in the park with my old friend, Dylan.

Great day.

Great weekend.

Life is good.

don't you like how I made it seem like I actually have a life? Pretty good, I know.

music for your Monday... the Tardy Edition

I've had a crazy busy weekend that spilled into Monday. Basically, the only time I've been home the past four days was spent sleeping. Sooo... here's music for your Monday. Tardy style.

The Dodos singing Fables.

her favorite color is green.

And she's getting married. Today.

Exciting! I've had the awesome honor of knowing Katie A. since elementary school. You know, it's funny. There were so many Katies at our school, so they always came with a last initial. And now, long after our school days, it doesn't matter if she is the only Katie around, we still call her Katie A.

This week I realized that after tonight she will no longer be Katie A.

Which is kinda bittersweet.

So, a little drama (at least as dramatic as my life gets).

I asked to have her wedding off work over a month ago. Found someone to cover for me. Didn't ask for any other nights off so that I wouldn't ruin my chances of getting this night off.

Then two other people come along and ask for the night off.

Basically. I asked for it off first but because it was not for another job or for a mandatory school thing I was the one who ended up being put back on the schedule.

So I made a backup plan and worked out a deal with my boss. To go to the ceremony, then leave for work, be hostess instead of server, only work while it's busy, then leave and return to the wedding.

Not too shabby.

And although getting jipped should piss me off (which, I won't lie, I was) I've come to realize that it's just not worth it.

I've also come to realize that I will only be working there for two and a half more months. And then I'll be moving to San Francisco.

HALLELUJAH.

So don't wait up for me tonight, I'll be kicking off wedding season right. Watching Katie come down the aisle, seeing the first married smooch, laughing it up around the table with the boys from kindergarten, then hiding under the table during the bouquet toss, and decorating a getaway golf cart.

cheep cheep

The sound of baby chicks chirping has been a constant in our house since Saturday when my mom got eight new chicks.
They are seriously the most adorable little things I've ever seen. Especially when they fall asleep in your hands.
I named this one Zelda.

Don't tell the other chicks, but she's my favorite.

So this guy, Rocky Votolato, is pretty cool. Last summer, my friend Katie invited me over to her place to see him play a house show. Apparently, he and his wife were traveling all down the west coast performing shows in his fan's living rooms. It was definitely one of the coolest, most intimate concerts I've ever been to. He ended up playing to about twenty of us in her backyard around a fire pit, with all the farm animals making their farm animal noises in the background.

Like I said, pretty cool.

This song is from one of his older albums, but he just came out with a new one in... February? It's a good one. Music you can turn on and just chill out to. Check him out!

P.S. Another song I really like from this album is "Portland is Leaving"

I am brilliant.

Yesterday
Jesus' blood (also known as grape juice from communion) on my white converse.

Today
A whole lot of green paint on my carpet.

Can't wait to find out what I spill tomorrow.
I'm sure my parents are just beaming with pride over the graceful young woman I've become.

a peek into Grandma's garden

Sunday afternoon I broke away from the family and walked around my Grandma's garden. I only wish I had worn a rain coat seeing as it was one wet day.

and it was good.

my best friend treated me to a concert last night.

Michael Buble's concert.

Honestly, I didn't know it was possible to love him more.

Gosh darn those Argentinian beauties.

and a happy Easter to you

When I was a little girl, every Easter my family would drive up to my Auntie Margaret and Uncle Ed's home that was nestled in the foothills. Auntie Margaret would boil eggs and then dye them every year, hiding them so well that sometimes it felt we were looking for hours. I swear, no one can dye an egg like Auntie Marg could. They were boiled eggs of art.

And then, my absolute favorite part of Easter, was the walk. The women would stay at the house and gab while cleaning up, while the men went for a walk through the neighborhood and let the kids tag along. The air always felt crisp and fresh, the dalmatian down the street would always come to greet us, and I always got to hold Grandpa's hand.

Unfortunately as I've grown older, these traditions have died along with the people who started them. I think though, that this year, this year I'm bringing back the neighborhood walk. It may not be the same neighborhood, and there may not be anyone walking but me, but I'll be walking. For Uncle Ed and for Grandpa.

And for my Easter traditions.

There's one tradition that hasn't died though. And that's laughter. The best tradition of all.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter Sunday!

oh, you'll like this one.

So.

Last night Gerard Butler was my boyfriend.

Which should be nice enough right?

Oh no. No, no. It gets better.

He hands me this huge tupperware, tells me to hold it out. When I ask why we're standing in front of a building holding tupperware out, he tells me in his Scottish accent that the building is a bakery and he's planted explosives so that the building will blow up and send all the baked goods flying.

Hence the tupperware.

To catch the baked goods. And then flee the scene of the crime.

To which I reply- "why didn't I think of that?!"

I don't know how my brain comes up with these things while I'm sleeping.
